Nicole Queen
My name is Nicole Queen. I am the proud wife of a first responder and stay at home mom to 3 kids in the district, grades 1st, 4th, and 5th. I am involved in the schools and the community by volunteering as the Co-Vice President of the Education Foundation, a hot lunch coordinator for the FSP and as a cheerleading coach for the Frankfort Falcons. I really enjoy being in the school as much as I can to get to know all of the kids and staff. On the weekends I serve with the kids ministry at Parkview Christian Church. I am running for school board to be a voice for the parents in the community by advocating for more parent involvement and communication with the school board and I will always put the needs of our children first.

Questions | Answers
According to the Illinois Association of School Boards, one crucial characteristic of a school board member is the ability to represent the entire community and not special interest or partisan groups. What will you do to support the needs of the diverse population within our community?
As I keep saying, I will be a voice for the parents in our community. That means ALL the parents. I feel it is extremely important that your voices are heard and your feelings are acknowledged. I think it’s important that people should be aware of each other in order to build a better society.
How would you address the increasing concerns surrounding mental health and bullying within schools? Please be specific with changes you would like to see or additions you would recommend.
Mental illness is a very important topic for me because it is a problem nationwide because it is extremely hard to find help. There is a lack of resources for parents and every hospital, doctor office or therapy place, has an extremely long wait list. It makes you feel even more helpless as a parent. I think that if we have the resources available WITHIN our district, that will be a huge relief for the parents AND the kids because they will have first hand access to familiar, trusted professionals. I would like to work to make on making this possible once elected and even if I’m not.
One thing in particular I noticed is we don’t have handicap accessible playground equipment. We need to do better at making sure everything within our district is inclusive to all kids needs.
Do you feel it is a conflict of interest to have financial investments with any companies that our district contracts with? Why or why not?
Of course I think that’s a conflict of interest. Anytime money is involved with someone who has a personal financial gain or loss involved, they will choose their own personal interests, over what is best for our kids or communities.
